There are thousands of predictable and forgettable movies out there. But Jon doesn't bother with those. Jon gets a bee in his bonnet when art aspires to something higher and then falls on its face. Mission to Mars, with its hokey, love-thy-planet-earth ending, sets that standard in the movie arena. Jon has a theory that for something to be truly bad, it has to have lofty aspirations. He promises to explain his theories of badness in the not-too-distant future. Anyway, here are some of my favorite movie reviews by Jon:
The Most Overrated Films of All Time
JR sticks it to two more films that lots of people like…and he gets a smart letter from a reader in defense of Pulp Fiction.
The Top 33 Movies of All Time JR on his top 33 movies of all time, with a shocking late arrival to the top of the list.
Five Stars for Moulin Rouge…and Now Five Starts for AI?
Jon's just about had it with the Valley Advocate's fawning praise of imperfect movies.
Fight Club – Almost a Brilliant Movie
Jon's capsule review of a movie that flirted with greatness but fell short.
