This is an email I sent to President Bush on September 17, 2001. I also sent a copy directly to the 700 Club. Here's the autoresponse I got back from that:

Hello Mr. President. You are doing a great job so far of managing a serious crisis situation and I thank you for your leadership.
I'm sure you would agree that it is crucial right now for the American people to form a united front against terrorism and stand together. That is why I'm so disappointed in Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson's recent comments blaming the attacks on America on "pagans, abortionists, feminists, homosexuals, and the American Civil Liberties Union." It is hard to unite as a country when certain religious leaders are actually assigning blame for this horrific attack on its own citizens. When we get to the bottom of these attacks and figure out who the suspects are, I think we'll learn that the key issue on their minds wasn't the issue of abortion. Since almost all of the terrorists seem to be of Arab nationalities, one would have to assume that the U.S. policies and presence in the Middle East is probably more of a concern to them then small groups of American pagans who exercise their right not to go to church on Sunday.
I hope that the next time you speak with Falwell and Robertson you will have some strong words for them about their remarks, especially the timing of them, made right after the incident when people were grieving and looking for loved ones. Their comments seriously cast doubt upon their credentials as religious leaders and men of compassion.
Finally, I hope that as you take the time to hunt down the people behind these terrible incidents, you continue to take the time to speak out against domestic backlash against Arab-Americans. We can't really have a feeling of unity when people are beating up hard-working Arab-Americans and marching on Mosques. And please be careful to target your attacks carefully and support them with evidence. I really don't want to see a holy war between Arab Muslims and the U.S. That's not a fight anybody wants a part of. In fact, it sounds a bit like the ingredients for World War III.
Thanks for listening and for your strong leadership.
